4804 Crystal "Pictorial"
“Corn is Life,” you will sometimes hear out in the Navajo Nation. The importance of corn in Navajo life is celebrated in this rug, otherwise probably classified as a “semi-pictorial Crystal.” This could be called a double horse blanket. The twist in white wefts on the edges of bands gives them an interesting “crystal” effect and differentiates it from similar weavings called by the name of--and from--Chinle. This is hand-spun yarn, with natural/vegetal dyes in subtle, shifting tones for a very nice chromatic balance in this fine weaving. 65” x 43”
